Overview

Man Yi Restaurant 满溢私房菜 is a small Chinese establishment nestled in the heart of Melaka Raya, Malaysia, at 12 Jln Merdeka. This cozy gem is run by a dedicated husband-and-wife team, bringing authentic home-style flavors to the table with personal care and passion. The intimate setting, fewer than ten tables, creates an inviting atmosphere that feels more like a family dining room than a commercial eatery, offering guests a warm, memorable culinary experience.

The menu is a curated collection of traditional and innovative dishes, each crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Standout offerings include the Curry Fish Claypot, known for its fragrant yet balanced curry enveloping tender fish; the Golden Pumpkin Fried Tofu, which combines silky tofu with a rich, subtly sweet pumpkin sauce; and the Roast Pork Knuckle with Special Sauce, a dish praised for its crispy skin and succulent meat. Also not to be missed are the Signature Home Pork Ribs, Hakka Fried Pork Belly, and the unique Steamed Drunken Chicken Roll, each bringing layers of flavor that speak to the chef’s skill in mastering traditional techniques infused with a modern sensibility.

The restaurant’s appeal extends beyond the dishes. It is a family-run kitchen, primarily led by a passionate woman chef, supported by attentive service that, while sometimes unhurried due to the small team, makes every guest feel valued. This close-knit dynamic fosters a personalized dining experience rarely found in busier venues.

Given the limited seating and the growing popularity among both locals and travelers, reservations are essential. The restaurant’s space is compact but thoughtfully arranged to maximize comfort without sacrificing intimacy. This makes Man Yi ideal for small groups, couples, or anyone seeking an authentic taste of Melaka’s private kitchen cuisine.

Man Yi Restaurant is a destination for those who appreciate carefully prepared Chinese dishes with a home-cooked feel—rich in heritage, skill, and heart. Whether you’re indulging in their savory curry fish head, savoring the crunchy golden tofu, or delighting in the flavorful pork knuckle, the experience promises to be both satisfying and memorable. For visitors to Malacca, this humble yet exquisite spot is a culinary must-visit, embodying the true spirit of local private dining.

This place offers home-style cooking at great prices. Unfortunately, service can be a bit slow as it's a one-woman show. Reservations are highly recommended as they don't accommodate walk-ins due to limited table space. Highly recommend their signature Claypot curry fish, passion fruit prawn and hakka fried pork.

Small one woman chef family run restaurant- bookings essential! Great dishes excellent service . Sisters Carmen (chef) and Nancy ( maître d) made this dinning experience so much more memorable. They are usually booked out and have many regular customers - self explanatory !

Where do I even begin? This cosy, intimate spot—with fewer than 10 tables offered a personalized dining experience that’s hard to come by. The food is meticulously prepared, full of flavour, and feels like a refined take on comforting home-cooked dishes. There’s a clear attention to detail in every bite. The lady boss is incredibly warm and welcoming, adding to the charm of the place. Be sure to make a reservation else you get zero chance of dining here.

With a group of 11 friends, we traveled from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, stopping in Malacca for lunch at this restaurant. The restaurant is known for its private kitchen dishes (chef's recommendations). If you want to try their signature dishes, be sure to book in advance; otherwise, you might miss out on their famous specialties. In my opinion, the best dish is the roast pork knuckle. It's very flavorful, with crispy skin and tender meat—definitely a must-try. The curry fish head pot is also outstanding, with a fragrant but not spicy curry. The golden pumpkin tofu is another must-eat; its sauce is made from pumpkin. The deep-fried salty egg yolk prawns are also delicious. Overall, I think this Chinese restaurant's dishes are excellent. If you're visiting Malacca, it's worth a try.

Highly recommended! We tried the salted egg chicken and the curry claypot fish head! Absolutely delicious! The salted chicken is done with fresh salted egg that does not overpower the curry leaves fragrance and the chicken is crispy on the outside and moist within. The curry fish head is so nice and unique, the curry have just a tinge of spicy that does not overpower the freshness of the fish which is nicely prepared.
